Learn more about who I am, where I
came from and where I'm going.
I was born and raised in Niagara Falls and for as long as I can remember have loved learning and technology. I was writing basic websites and small programs in grade school and was winning programming competitions in high school. I apprenticed as an electrician before taking university courses for computer science and then starting up as a network technician apprentice at Fast Computers through Canada College. Although I have learned many things from school I have learned most of what I know by independent research, study and by trial and error.
I could go on all day about my interests and loves for technology... from artificial intelligence to robotics, web technologies and standards... databases and networking. I just love all technology. Outside of technology though, I love working out, especially weightlifting. I love hiking and exploring, and I also love personal finances. I find it really interesting what people spend their money on, and how I can save and invest my money better.
I joined Fast Computers in 2007 and it has been a crazy journey. I started by answering phone calls and recording problems, answering them if I could, and passing them along if I couldn't. The second task I was given was to organize and structure the documentation for the entire company. I've always been a very organized person but this was a very large task - after quite a bit of research I decided to use OneNote, which has stood the test of time as a great platform for documentation. It allowed me to organize data incredibly well in different books, folders, subfolders, and pages.
In 2008 Fast Computers opened a retail division in Hagersville and I helped build it from the ground up, literally. I painted walls, ran and terminated cable, built desks, placed product, determined prices of our services, everything. I ran the store, performed all services, sold all products, and also did on-site support.
Not too long afterwards, I was involved in some business refreshes, and new business rollouts, new desktops, servers, networking equipment, line of business applications... and managing them too. I researched remote monitoring and management tools and professional services automation tools, comparing them to what we were currently using. I built onto these platforms and made them what they are today.
We started hiring employees, and I wrote the manuals for them and trained them on what they needed to do and how they needed to do it. I still assist other employees when they're having problems or need a second opinion.
Most recently, I created a new platform for our web hosting. I migrated every single domain, database, all files, Email accounts, and subdomains over to our new servers and new platform. We changed from our Windows Plesk hosting to Linux cPanel on new hardware, and the migration was smooth and is much more reliable. We moved our new hosting platform into it's own business unit, known as Pure Profit Hosting, a division of Fast Computers. It is here where I am able to use my web development skills, designing and developing new websites and web applications for people and businesses.
